Indian Content Expected To be Ban In Pakistan
Recently, PEMRA has sent a proposal to the federal government that only that amount of Indian content and TV channels should be allowed in Pakistan as the Pakistani dramas, films etc. are allowed in India.
Prior to that, India has banned all Pakistani content including dramas, channels, sports events and even Pakistani actors. Now PEMRA wants to show only as much Indian content as Pakistani content is allowed in India.
Through this policy, the pro-India policy of Pervez Musharraf will come to an end that will help to promote local media industry and local content. According to PEMRA, strict measures will be taken by the authority against illegal channels and contents after 15th October 2016. Until the end of this pro-India policy, initiated by former PM Shaukat Aziz, cable operators will be allowed to show 6% Indian content out of the total content.
Apart from that, PEMRA has simplified the landing rights of channels and reduced the fees. It will help to start new channels for environment, education and research purposes.
